Welcome to Shelly's Swim School

We aim to develop safe and confident swimmer for lifelong enjoyment of the water.

Our purpose-built teaching pools are heated to provide classes all year round. All of our teaching and coaching staff are fully qualified through nationally recognised organisations.

Our unique 6 level program will ensure that your child gains strong fundamentals and continues to develop and strengthen their swimming as they progress.


Learn to Swim

Free introductory program to familiarise parents and babies to the aquatic environment


Age: 3 months to 6 months

Class Duration: 20 - 30 minutes

Teach parents and babies basic water safety skills in a supportive and social environment.


Age: 6 months to 15 months

Class Duration: 30 minutes

Teacher to Student Ratio: 1:8

Babies and toddlers are beginning to work more independently in preparation for the next level.


Age: 15 months to 36 months

Class Duration: 30 minutes

Teacher to Student Ratio: 1:8

This is the first level where our little swimmers are in the water without a carer. It’s a great mix of fun and skills, the perfect progression for our squirts or for those being introduced to swimming lessons for the first time.


Age: 3 years+

Class Duration: 30 minutes

Teacher to Student Ratio: 1:4

Now it’s time to start putting it all together. Children are learning the basics of Freestyle and Backstroke, with a focus on correct kicking and body position.


Class Duration: 30 minutes

Teacher to Student Ratio: 1:4

Children are now swimming Freestyle and Backstroke independently and are being challenged with swimming longer distances and refining their technique.


Class Duration: 30 minutes

Teacher to Student Ratio: 1:6

Children can now swim 25m in Freestyle and Backstroke and are being introduced to Breaststroke and Butterfly. Children are also learning simple squad swimming etiquette like tumble turns and correct diving technique.


Class Duration: 30 minutes

Teacher to Student Ratio: 1:7

Shelly's Swim Squad

After successfully completing our Learn to Swim levels, Shelly’s Swim Squad program provides an introduction to competitive squad training; enabling participants to swim confidently in all four strokes.


Swimmers will improve their swimming fitness, have the opportunity to gain the skills to compete competitively and further develop their water safety skills. We encourage swimmers to train two or more times a week.

Bronze

"Fun"damentals

• To develop and foster skills and abilities in all four competitive strokes.

Class Duration:
45 minutes


Training requirements:
1-2 times per week


Equipment Required:
Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Fins, Goggles and Cap


Session Times:

Monday to Friday: 3:30pm - 4:15pm

Saturday: 7:45am - 8:30pm

Sunday: 8:45am

Silver

"Learn to Train"

• To develop and foster skills and abilities in all four competitive strokes

• Focus on developing confidence and fitness with technique.

• Introduction and development to competition skills


Class Duration:
60 minutes


Training requirements:
1-2 times per week


Equipment Required:
Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Fins, Goggles and Cap


Session Times:

Monday to Friday: 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Saturday: 8:00am

Sunday: 7:45am

Gold

"Learn to Compete"

• To further develop skills and abilities whilst developing fitness levels necessary for regular competition in all four strokes.

• Focus on developing confidence in training at higher intensity levels

• Sessions are designed to give swimmers the necessary skills to compete

• Swimmer aims to represent club and school at school representative competitions


Class Duration:
60 minutes


Training requirements:
1-2 times per week


Equipment Required:
Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Fins, Goggles and Cap


Session Times:

Monday to Friday: 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Saturday: 8:00am

Sunday: 7:45am

Platinum

"Competing"

• Swimmers progress to the 50m for Platinum level

• Swimmers aim to reach State Sprint, Brisbane Sprint and State Championship Qualifying times.


Class Duration:
60 minutes


Training requirements:
Minimum 2 times per week


Equipment Required:
Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Fins, Goggles and Cap

Monday to Friday: 3:30pm

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 5:30am

Saturday: 6:00am

FAQS

When can we start lessons?
Families can enroll anytime! We don’t make families wait until the start of a new school term to commence lessons. As soon as you’re ready to go, we’re ready to welcome you!
What do we get when we enroll into lessons?
All swimmers enrolled into Shelly’s Swim School will receive a quality Swim Cap, Swim Bag, and a rewards card. The rewards card will provide an incentive for the students to attend their lessons as they receive a prize after every 10 lessons. A membership card will also be issued to scan as you arrive to your lesson.
What payment options do you offer?
We offer 2 easy payment options for your family’s Learn to Swim program:

Payment Option 1: Full Block Payment
  • - Pay for the Block up front at $23 per lesson
  • - Payment is required on the time of booking

Payment Option 2: Fortnightly Direct Debit
  • - For your convenience Shelly’s Swim School will debit your nominated bank account or credit card $46 fortnightly on a Thursday ($23 per lesson)
  • - The direct debit will be ongoing unless we are provided with 14 days written notice to suspend or cancel
  • - A pro-rata amount of approx. $46 will be required to be paid on time of booking as payment is in advance two weeks.
  • - The minimum contract term is 30 days.
  • - Forms will need to be completed and signed for your authority to debit the account

Do you offer sibling discounts?
  • We offer a 5% discount for the 2nd child, 10% discount for the 3rd and 4th child in the family
  • 50% discount for the second lesson per week
  • 75% discount for the third lesson per week
  • All Swim School families receive 10% off all swim shop stock
Do lessons continue over the school holidays and public holidays?
Lessons continue over the school holidays with the exception of three weeks during the Christmas/New Year break. There are no lessons on Public Holidays and fees are adjust accordingly.
What happens if my child is sick or we go away on holidays?
We understand that sometimes our little swimmers are unwell. If you are unable to attend a lesson, notify us prior to the commencement of the lesson. Make up classes can be booked 24 hours in advance and must be made with an active enrollment and cannot roll over into the next block. If you are going away for a long period of time or wish to give your child a small break and do not want to lose your lesson day and time, you can suspend you Direct Debit for a cost of $5 per week. If your absence is due to a medical condition, please provide us with a medical certificate and we will suspend the fees at no cost and hold the spot until the child is ready to return to their lesson. All suspensions require the completion of a suspension form.
Can we cancel our Direct Debit?
Yes. We require 14 days written notice to cancel your direct debit. Cancellation forms are available from reception.

When is the payment debited from our accounts?
The Direct Debit comes out fortnightly on a Thursday. Please be aware that if there are insufficient funds or the payment declines, you will incur a $6 fee which will be required to be paid at reception prior to the next lesson. Please ask our friendly customer service team for a calendar.
How many Lessons should we do?
Consistency and repetition are the key to success, therefore the more classes per week you can attend the faster the student will learn.
What to Bring
  • - All children that are not toilet trained are required to wear a swimmer’s nappy.
  • - We highly recommend that all children from level 1 and above wear a swim cap and goggles
  • - Children in levels Bronze and above are required to bring their own swim-gear bag including kickboard, fins, pull buoy, and drink bottle.
Are your teachers accredited?
All of our teachers hold Nationally recognised qualifications and the Swim Schools are affiliated with AUSTSWIM.
Are the pools heated?
We maintain the water temperature between 32 – 33 degrees in the indoor pools and 28 – 29 degrees in the 25m pool. We also have state of the art filtration to ensure immaculate water quality.
How do I know what lessons times are available?
We are very flexible and offer lessons 7 days a week. Call our friendly reception team and we can provide you with options.
Do you have child minding facilities?
Our centres offer child minding facilities. Days and times vary.

Other Programs

Adult Learn to Swim

The Adult Beginner class is suitable for people who have little or no water experience.


This class will teach you the fundamentals of swimming including confidence in the water, correct kicking technique, streamlining and floating, along with basic Freestyle.


Classes are scheduled in the Indoor Program pool during the week and the heated 25m pool of a weekend.


These classes are limited to a maximum of 6 participants.


We recommend you bring to each class a swim cap, goggles and towel.



Cost per lesson is $26.00 and is payable on the time of booking.

Adult Stroke Correction

The Stroke Correction Program is suitable for adult swimmers who do not feel they are ready for a squad session.


This class is aimed at extending the swimmer to provide strength and endurance in Freestyle and other strokes on request.


These classes are limited to a maximum of 6 participants.


We recommend you bring to each class a swim cap, goggles and towel.



Cost per lesson is $35.00 and is payable on the time of booking.

Private Lessons

Shelly’s Swim School offers private lessons upon request.


Availability depends on class schedule and teacher availability.

Shelly Douyere (Grad. Dip. Elite Sports Coaching, Swimming) is a local business owner with over 40 years’ experience in all aspects of the aquatic industry.

Shelly is the lessee of both Yeronga Park and Dunlop Park Swimming Pools where she and her staff operate with kindness and care for the community.

Shelly’s passion is to promote the importance of water safety and nurture a love of water for life.
